What we believe about giving
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7
In the verse above, the Apostle Paul was writing about an offering of money that was being given, and he lays out some principles for giving in the first century that we are committed to following right now:
- Giving should be a planned decision of our will. It is something we must purpose in our heart to do. The idea of percentage giving can help greatly with this!
- Giving should never be done with a bad attitude. No fears or reluctance or concerns.
- Giving should never be done under compulsion. No laws, no requirements, no guilt, nor force.
- Giving should always be done with a glad heart. With joy, excitement, anticipation, and expectations for what God will do with it!
- Giving our money to help make the body function is something local churches have always done.
- Giving our money is one of the ways we share the responsibility of being part of the family.
- Giving our money reaffirms that it’s all God’s anyway.
- Giving our money trains us to live on less, and puts us in a place to give more.
- Giving our money puts us in a place where we have to trust God.
- The best of all, giving our money puts us in a place for God to change us!
